Reasearch Into The Thriller Genre

The aim of a thriller film is to keep the audience on edge and is quite obviously 'thrilling'. The film usually includes someone being involved in a life threatening situation and it has a big build up of tension; for example, a character could be trying to escape from somewhere dangerous. The plot includes a lot of mystery which isn't revealed until the end and usually builds up to a big climax towards the end of the film.

There are many sub-genres in the thriller genre including:
  • Conspiracy thriller - The hero/heroine confronts a large, powerful group of enemies
  • Crime thriller - Focuses on criminals and often includes murders
  • Disaster thriller - The main conflict is due to some sort of natural disaster
We consider our film as a crime thriller as it involves criminal activities including stealing and murder.

Popular films in the thriller genre include:
  • Silence Of The Lambs (1991)
  • Seven (1995)
  • Hostage (2005)
