Make-up photo

This is how Sophie will look during the first two minutes of the film, after being kidnapped. A video will be uploaded to show how the make-up was applied.

Location Photo 4

This is the location where we see Sophie getting ready to meet Emily at the beginning of the film. It is just a typical girls bedroom where we will see Sophie applying her make-up.

Saw Review

We have chosen to look at this review as it is a similar story line to the film we're creating. The film is about people who are being held hostage and made to do a series of tasks to get out, which is quite like our film. However, this film is rated 18 as it is far more gruseome.

Costumes

Emily's Costume: During the first two minutes of the film Emily wears only one outfit as the scene maintains the same time space, showing Emily waiting for her friend and receiving the phone call. For Emily's costume I have chosen a pair of shorts, a t-shirt with a black and white effect, which also has a series of tassles and a leather jacket. I have chosen these as they are both casual and stylish. This outfit is representation of Emily's care-free, confident attitude and helps represent how Emily will get on with the tasks the kidnapper gives her in order to get friend back. The tassels on her t-shirt and the fact that she's wearing a leather jacket also gives her a stylish 'rock chick' look.

Emily's Hair & Make-Up: Throughout the two minutes, Emily will be seen wearing not a lot of make-up however she will be wearing eye make-up which accenctuates her eyes. Emily has long, blonde hair and will be wearing a hot pink lipstick during the film, this highlights a girly side to her personality as well as the 'rock chick' look. She will also be seen with rosey cheeks which show a warm, loving nature, this is how we want the audience to perceive her, as well as seeing her confident side.

Idea for Music

When researching what music we may use on our film, we came across this website. We like three tracks and will use these on different parts of the film. We like Red Letter, Right Behind You and Aftermath.

Location Photo 3

This is the location where Sophie is taken when she is kidnapped. It is quite dingy and looks run down and isolated. The chair shown on the photograph is the chair that Sophie will be tied to throughout the film. During filming in this location we will include various different shots and we will film from various different angles.

Research: Production Company Logo

I have chosen four of the most recognised production companies and began to study their logos. We have decided on the name 'Moon Productions' for our production company as we believe it to be simple but affective and it would be able to create a good logo to go with the name. What I like about the 'Dreamworks' logo is that is simple but creates a mystical, dream-like affect which works well with the production name. The colours are also very soothing. The '20th Century Fox' logo brings in a real Hollywood film element as there is the use of the colour gold and the bright lights, which is perfect for the companies purpose. The 'Universal' logo again is simple but extremley affective and memorable log. The image of the Earth suggests that their movies appeal to everyone - I would like to create something similar to this when creating the Moon Productions logo. I like that the 'Paramount' logos main focus is a beautiful scene, also the element of the stars suggests quality films. I will consider all these different elements when creating my production logo.

List Of Tricky Shots

  1. MS of Sophie tied up, then zoom to mobile phone
  2. POV shot of kidnapper in the trees, trying to get the right amount of movement
  3. LS of Sophie tied up, tilting upwards

Props List

Balaclava
This prop is essential when creating our film as it is used to hide the kidnappers identity.

Mobile Phones
Two mobile phones will be needed during our film, one belonging to Sophie and the other to Emily. These will be needed to establish contact with the kidnapper. They will not necessarily be this model.

Draper 49432 33m x 50mm Black Duct Tape Roll
Tape
This will be used to cover Sophie's mouth while she's tied up.

Rope
We will be using this to tie Sophie to a chair.

Chair
Sophie will be tied to this.

Table
This will be used to stand the candle on.

Candle
The candle which will be seen flickering at the beginning and end of the two minutes.

The Title of Our Film - 'Aftermath'

We have chosen to name our film 'Aftermath', we think that a one word title is simple which makes it catchy and appealing, also the word 'aftermath' is quite dramatic. The definition of 'aftermath' is 'the consequences of an event'. The event in our film is Emily's dad buying drugs from the kidnapper but refusing to pay him the full amount which results in Sophie getting kidnapped and being in a life threatening situation whilst Emily has to do a series of dangerous tasks to release Sophie.

Title Sequence Ideas

An earlier link posted on this blog showed the title sequence for a film called 'Seven' and I explained how we would like our film to have a similar title sequence. We like the idea of images and footage flickering in between the titles.
If we were to use this idea we would have to use images and fottage which is relevant to the storyline of our film, these could include:
  • A flickering candle - this is because a candle is shown at the very beginning and the end of the two minute film and it is significant in this scene.
  • A clock - this is because our film is based on Emily completing tasks to help her friend escape from being held hostage and the tasks are given a time limit.
  • A mobile telephone - this is because the phone used in this film is the only way of contact for Emily, Sophie and the kidnapper and it is used throughout the film when Emily is given the tasks, it is their only way of contact.
  • Money - this would be very effective as money is very significant throughout the film and is the cause of the plot of the film.

Seven Title Sequence

This is the title sequence of a film called 'Seven', the film shares the same genre as our film, thriller. We hope to have a similar title sequence for our film as we like the idea of it jumping and flickering in and out of focus and showing different images in between.

Reasearch Into The Thriller Genre

The aim of a thriller film is to keep the audience on edge and is quite obviously 'thrilling'. The film usually includes someone being involved in a life threatening situation and it has a big build up of tension; for example, a character could be trying to escape from somewhere dangerous. The plot includes a lot of mystery which isn't revealed until the end and usually builds up to a big climax towards the end of the film.

There are many sub-genres in the thriller genre including:
  • Conspiracy thriller - The hero/heroine confronts a large, powerful group of enemies
  • Crime thriller - Focuses on criminals and often includes murders
  • Disaster thriller - The main conflict is due to some sort of natural disaster
We consider our film as a crime thriller as it involves criminal activities including stealing and murder.

Popular films in the thriller genre include:
  • Silence Of The Lambs (1991)
  • Seven (1995)
  • Hostage (2005)

90 Minute Treatment

In the first two minutes of the film, we see Sophie tied up in a chair in a dark room, she has been kidnapped. Sophie has flashbacks which reveals what happened, these flashbacks show her walking through a park as well as showing her friend Emily waiting for her. We see that he is watching her and it is quite obvious that he is the one who kidnapped her. The kidnapper asks Sophie's friend, Emily, to complete a number of tasks in order to release Sophie and Emily will do anything to get her best friend back. Throughout the film, Sophie is held hostage by the kidnapper in the garage, she becomes weaker and weaker and begins to lose faith. Meanwhile, Emily completes a number of dangerous tasks in order to collect money for the kidnapper. Emily is told that if she doesn't hand over the money in a certain amount of time, she will never see Sophie again. The tasks include mugging, robbery, violence and minor prostitution. We find out that Emily's father owes the kidnapper drugs and the kidnapper is using his daughter and her friend in order to get back at him and claim his money back. Emily's Father finds out that the kidnapper has taken Sophie and says he is going to call the police, the kidnapper threatens to murder Sophie and begins to beat her, but Sophie is saved as the police arrive just in time and arrest him.

Title Sequence Research

Title Sequence: Panic Room

We like this title sequence because it is very simplistic. The text is very plain but combined with the images of the city and the eery music it works very well to create a tense feel. In our title sequences, we plan to do something like this, with plain but flickering writing and a use of images to give the audience and indication of what's to come.

Title Sequence for Saw

This is the trailer for the film sequence Saw. We like the title sequence for this film because it has the same scratchy fonts that we are wanting to do in our title sequence. We also like the clock in the background. This would relate to our film because there is a limitation of time, where the girl can be rescued. This also would relate to our film.

Trailer for the film: The Taken

We have posted a link to the trailer of this film because we think it has a similar storyline to our film. Taken is about a young girl being kidnapped and in both films, someone close to them is trying to save them, and rescue the kidnapped teenager.
